Since November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness month we have been blogging about Pancreatic Cancer. Over the last two weeks we have talked about signs and symptoms, and the possible causes of Pancreatic Cancer.
This week we would like to give a few pointers on prevention. It has not been proven that the following steps actually prevent pancreatic cancer but it will put you at lower risk (according to the Mayo Clinic).
If you smoke STOP. Talk to your physician to help you stop. There are several didn’t method to help smokers quit. Your physician should be able to help you decide the correct treatment for you. You Physician may want to direct you to a support group, use medications, nicotine replacement of some other treatment. The moral is STOP. If you don’t smoke DON’T START!!!
If you are overweight try to lose weight. You should diet by eating smaller portions, eating fruits, vegetables, and whole grains along the proper exercise. Loosing 1 to 2 pounds per week is healthiest and by losing weight slowly it is much easier to keep it off.
These are only a couple of suggestions of lowering your risk. Not only will this help in the prevention of Pancreatic Cancer, but in every other aspect of your everyday life and overall health. Remember you are the only one who truly knows their body. At the first sign of any undue change contact your doctor as early detection increases your chance of survival.
This blog as all the November blogs is in honor of James Hess a patient in the battle of Pancreatic Cancer.
